Effects of Screening on Quark-Antiquark Cross Sections in Quark-Gluon Plasma

چکیده
Lowest-order cross sections for qq̄ production and annihilation can be approximately corrected for higher-order QCD effects by using a corrective Kfactor. For energies where quark masses cannot be ignored, the K-factor is dominated by the wave function distortion arising from the initialor finalstate interaction between the quark and the antiquark. We evaluate this Kfactor for qq̄ production and annihilation in a quark-gluon plasma by taking into account the effects of Debye screening through a color-Yukawa potential. We present the corrective K-factor as a function of dimensionless parameters which may find applications in other systems involving attractive or repulsive Yukawa interactions. Prominent peaks of the K-factor occur for an attractive q-q̄ color-Yukawa interaction with Debye screening lengths of 0.835 and 3.23 times the Bohr radius, corresponding to two lowest s-wave qq̄ bound states moving into the continuum to become qq̄ resonances as the Debye screening length decreases. These resonances, especially the cc̄ and the bb̄ resonances, may be utilized to search for the quark-gluon plasma by studying the sys-

متن کاملEffects of Final-State Interaction and Screening on Strange- and Heavy-Quark Production
Final-state interaction and screening have a great influence on qq̄ production cross sections, which are important quantities in many problems in quark-gluon plasma physics. They lead to an enhancement of the cross section for a qq̄ color-singlet state and a suppression for a color-octet state. The effects are large near the production threshold. The presence of screening gives rise to resonances...
متن کاملModeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملLepton pair production in a charged quark gluon plasma
We investigate the effects of a charge asymmetry on the spectrum of dileptons radiating from a quark gluon plasma. We demonstrate the existence of a new set of processes in this regime. The dilepton production rate from the corresponding diagrams is shown to be as important as that obtained from the Born-term quark-antiquark annihilation.
متن کاملPair production of neutral Higgs bosons at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
We study the hadroproduction of two neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, which provides a handle on the trilinear Higgs couplings. We include the contributions from quark-antiquark annihilation at the tree level and those from gluon-gluon fusion, which proceeds via quark and squark loops. We list compact results for the tree-level partonic cross se...
